Julia Piker is a composer, songwriter, and engineer. She released her first EP Biting Biding on June 30, 2017 and currently plays shows in the greater New York City area. Julia is also an accomplished composer at Pulse Music, having scored commercials for brands such as AT&T, Charmin, and Lexus. Her recent score for Proctor and Gamble’s ‘The Talk’ won her a London International Award for Original Music.
Julia was born in Brooklyn, NY, but she traces her musical history back to her family in Russia. Her grandfather was a saxophonist and clarinetist for the Russian Philharmonic. Her mother hails from Chernovits, Ukraine and her father from Minsk, Belarus, so she grew up speaking Russian at home and is bilingual. Classically trained in piano from the age of 6, Julia started writing music in middle school and later picked up guitar at the age of 16. She cites Queen’s least popular album Made in Heaven as one of her greatest influences, describing her amazement at the band’s ability to incorporate gospel into their operatic rock sound while being captivated by the album’s lush layering of voices and textures.
As a Brooklyn native, Julia knows just about every good food spot in town, especially the ones that are so good they make her stomach hurt. She also loves to travel abroad to places like Italy’s Amalfi coast regularly (just once). But what she really enjoys is spending hours and hours hunkered down in her studio, crafting tunes in just about any genre that a client may need or concocting her own soulful, folk-pop anthems.
